I think it is safe to say that the mobile space is heading in the direction of user experience. Mobile operating systems that offer annoying and complicated experiences are just not gonna make it in the long run against names like iPhone and Android. This is true for Symbian, it is true for Windows Mobile (although I hear the newer 6.5 is a huge improvement), and some will say it is true for BlackBerry.
While the Nexus One is making huge waves, a small company that has developed a Linux-based mobile operating system as well as an actual device, seem to be popping up more and more. I am referring to the First ELSE, which I probably heard about for the first time 6 months ago. They were at CES showing off their “revolutionary” mobile device, and without passing any judgement, I present to you two videos about the First ELSE. I will say it is different, but I am interested to hear what you think about their interface and the potential of such a device.
The UI is said to be optimized for one hand use, and you can read about the phone and its specifications on the Else Mobile website.
Do you think it will dominate the space? Does it look easy to use or do you think it is a little over the top? Please let us know in the comments:
Looks really nice… but what if your left handed (like me)???
Without a collection of third party apps, there is not much of a future. The feature phone is dead. Though this phone looks pretty cool.
Great post Hillel. I think the company’s labeling it a one-handed experience (which it is) has the potential to bring success early on but might doom them in the end should it reach the market . That said, I love the interface.
@Benji The phone probably has an option to switch the screen for people who are left-handed.
What Benji said
Very cool!
Any messaging examples? Standard keyboard?
It’s just a phone from the past, Emblaze lie since the beginning it’s a prototype for stock market
