It is that time of the week again, time to summarize the tech events we heard about over the past few days. Just in case you were wondering, the title is not a typo. The idea obviously came from the phrase Above the Fold, which you can read about here, and was adapted to my last name, Fuld. Cute, I know. It was actually not my idea, I crowd sourced it on Google+, but I do love it. Anyway, I hope you enjoy these weekly posts, they are fun to put together.
Apple
Steve Jobs and the one story that sums him up perfectly: If you read this story about Steve Jobs, you will get an idea of how he became Steve Jobs. The video will also give you goosebumps.
The iPhone 5 rumors keep coming in: Every day there seems to be a new rumor about the upcoming iPhone 5. This video took those rumors one step further. The bad news is there is zero chance of the iPhone 5 having any of these capabilities.
5 iPhone apps you are going to want to download: There are so many blogs, sites, and discovery services dedicated to finding new iPhone apps. Nothing beats a good recommendation of some highly practical and useful apps.
The iPad news reader space is heating up: CNN bought Zite for $20 million, and Flipboard seems to be entering the video space and will offer TV shows and movies to its 3 million users.
Apple loses ANOTHER iPhone prototype, wait for it, IN A BAR! Naturally there are many who believe this was a PR stunt but based on what I am reading, it is very much a true story. How, Apple, how?
RIM
Is BlackBerry dead? Read this! Spoiler: No! Seems like everyone is quick to declare mobile giants like Nokia and RIM as having gone on to a better place. Here are 8 reasons RIM is far from dead!
Android is crushing it! Google has declared that its goal with Android is to dominate the market, and with these latest numbers, someone over at Google should be announcing that the mission is very much accomplished.
Nokia
9 million Ovi app downloads a day. That doesn’t sound dead to me! Remember that Finnish mobile manufacturer who made your first mobile phone? So everyone says they are dead but the numbers say otherwise.
Samsung
Samsung jumps on the messaging bandwagon: Remember BBM? Yea well since then, there has been Whatsapp, iMessage, Kik, Google Huddle and many many more. Let’s all welcome ChatON by Samsung to the party. Be nice, folks.
Did Samsung just invent a new device category? Maybe Samsung copied others with their messaging solution but this new 5 inch Samsung Note, is a new kind of device, the likes of which we have only seen once before, albeit briefly with the Dell Streak.
