Wave and Bing

Wave and Bing might sound like superheros but you will certainly be  hearing a lot more of them in the coming months!

Wave is a new product by Google that reinvents the way we talk on instant messenger, email, and communicate on the web in general. Wave allows people to communicate in real time and much more naturally. One example is if I have been communicating with Hillel through email in a conversation for example, and there is a lot of back and forth, the email becomes very bulky and confusing when adding an additional person to the conversation. With Wave, you can add a user and he will be able to see the whole conversation in a type of Instant Message format and playback the progression on the email.

Another really great feature is the document collaboration, which allows people to edit a document at the same time, and you are able to see the changes in real time. In the business world, one of my pet peeves is emailing back and forth different versions of documents. Old versions are constantly getting changes and things getting lost all the time, but now we have Wave, which allows for real time conversation and editing inside the documents.

I cannot verify all the talk about the API being simple since I am not a programmer, but I’ve heard it’s really great.

I can’t wait to try it out, so Google if you’re reading, please approve my beta request.

The video from the event is long but worth the time if you have it. It explains it all.

Bing is Microsoft’s new search engine which looks really interesting. Microsoft has been light years behind in the search market for a while but this may lead them to a a little comeback. Knowing Microsoft they will find a way to mess it up but I hope they won’t.

The new engine they call a decision maker, not just a search engine. It provides a variety of new services like  guided search, built in maps, video, and much more.  An example would be hotel booking. Bing is a one stop shop to review and book your hotel.  Take a look at the screen shot below:

Take a min and watch the demo and you will understand what I’m talking about:

Looks like we are going to have two fun new toys this summer! Can’t wait.
