Above the Fuld: This Week’s Tech News (September 5th-11th)

It is that time of the week again, time to summarize the tech events we read about over the past few days. Just in case you’re wondering, the title is not a typo. The idea obviously came from the phrase Above the Fold, which you can read about here, and was changed to include my last name, Fuld. Cute, I know. It was actually not my idea, I crowd sourced it on Google+, but I do love it. Anyway, I hope you enjoy these weekly posts, they are fun to put together.

I would like to mention that the whole Mike Arrington AOL story is nowhere to be found in the links below. I figured I would wait to see how it all pans out. You also won’t find any mention of Yahoo firing its CEO over the phone and her responding with a nasty email and some interesting remarks to the Yahoo board.

Apple

Steve Jobs Was Wrong. There, I said it: Jobs has made it very clear that smaller tablets will fail from the get-go. He was wrong (in my humble opinion). Click the link to read 5 reasons smaller tablets DO work.

Jobs might have been wrong about tablets, but the man can perform! Steve Jobs stood before the city council of Cupertino to sell the plans for a new Apple building, or should I say spaceship. Watch the man sell a building!

Conan Takes on Apple: Apple losing yet another prototype iPhone in a bar is what’s called handing comedians some killer material on a silver platter. Conan took the bait.

Microsoft

Windows Phone to Snatch 2nd Place in the Market by 2015, Boot Apple Right Out: This might be hard for you to believe now, but Microsoft’s Windows Phone platform is right on its way to major success. Give it some time and it will surprise you.

Google

Google Makes Some Order in its vast Advertising Offering: AdSense and Admob (and Admeld), why does Google need them all? Google just answered that by separating mobile Web from mobile apps.

Facebook

The Facebook iPhone App Gets an Update, iPad App Still MIA: While the iPhone Facebook app remains the most downloaded iOS app of all time, Facebook continues to push out updates. Why they don’t dedicate those resources to developing an iPad app, the world will never know.

Adobe

Adobe Solves the Hardships Involved in Syncing and Editing Photos on Mobile Devices: Adobe Carousel is a new mobile platform intended to make photos easily syncable across mobile devices. It will also provide advanced photo editing dumbed down for the mobile phone.

HTC

HTC Gets in the Tablet Game, but Did not do Enough  Research: Would you pay $700 for an Android tablet that requires a 3 year contract? Yea, me neither. What is HTC thinking?

RIM

RIM releases BlackBerry App World 3.0: If you think RIM is dead, you are not watching closely enough. The company has not stopped innovating for a second.

Nokia

An Ovi App Will Get 160% More Downloads than an iOS App: Many people might have issues with these stats, but the fact remains, a developer looking to stand out has a much better chance on Ovi, Windows Phone, or BlackBerry than on the Apple App Store or Android Market. It is simple math.
