Zune Touch: Too Little Too Late, iPod Touch HD is Coming

zunetouchAs usual, Microsoft seems to be playing catch, this time it’s with Apple. Rumor has it, Microsoft is going to be announcing their Zune Touch, which is supposed to compete with the iPod Touch. OK, so first of all, couldn’t they come up with a better name? Second of all, I do believe Zunes will never compete with iPods.  More importantly though, seems like Microsoft has missed the boat, again!

Since we are talking about the Zune Touch rumor, let’s look at what current rumors there are about Apple’s next line of iPod Touch. OK, sit down Bill, the next gen iPod Touch, according to some serious and unofficially confirmed rumors,  will not have a 3.5′ screen like the current one. Nope, not 4 or 5 either. Depending on who you ask, the device will boast either a 7′ or 9′ screen.

You heard right! Apple is going to be releasing an iPod Touch HD. It will be a gigantic iPod (obviously it will be more like a tablet device than an iPod) with all the amazing advantages of an iPod Touch, including its OS, accelerometer, and most importantly the App Store. According to Arrington, we have no info on pricing but it is expected to go for significantly more than the $400 32GB iPod Touch.

So what do I mean when I say these rumors are unofficially confirmed? Well, Techcrunch has 3 independent sources for this scoop, including one that has supposedly held the device. That’s good enough for me! Does the thought of an MP3 player with a 3′-4′ touch screen, made by Microsoft, still excite you?

Twittastic: The Best Twitter Desktop Program

Hey All,

I have been using Twitter for some time now and I’ve been trying out different desktop clients. Some of them include Tweetdeck , Twhirl and others. I have found that they are all  over packed with features that the average user will never use.  All the features make the interface very crowded and  hard to use.

Twittastic to the rescue!

Twittastic is an easy to use client that looks like the Web-based Twitter. It has many cool features that do not overload the interface. These include:

  • Drag and drop image uploads to www.twitpic.com.
  • Take screenshots of parts of your screen and upload. Double click required.
  • Capture your webcam and send straight to Twitpic.
  • Infinite scrolling into past messages using a database. You can leave it running overnight.
  • Drag and drop file uploads straight into www.drop.io.
  • One click short URLs. Reads what you have copied and pastes the result.
  • Text based emoticons as seen here.
  • Ability to shut up for 30′ minutes. So you can brainstorm undistracted.

The developer is a funny guy. You can follow him at www.twitter.com/KCorax

It’s light and easy to use with a single downside; no MAC version.

Check it out –  http://www.twittastic.net/

Another MAC vs. PC Video

These MAC vs. PC videos are getting a little out of hand. This new one looks a lot more professional than the Transformers one and unless the director is extremely talented, he definitely spent some cash on making this video. Can someone explain to me what the thought process is behind these videos? What are the creators hoping to accomplish? Making the front page of Reddit or Digg (which it did, by the way)? Then what?

Android, Nova, and Like Mob

There really has not been a lot going on lately in the cellular world. It seems that 2009 is going to be a year that can be summed up in one word; Android. Pretty much all cellphone manufacturers are jumping on the Google OS bandwagon. Palm could also rise from the dead this year with Nova, but we will only know that after CES, when we find out what Nova is.

Yesterday, we saw some possible spy shots of the G2, which looks like an Android version of the HTC HD. Today’s rumors are that Sony Ericsson seems to be releasing their version of an Android phone, and it looks pretty amazing. It has a huge touch screen and a slide out full QWERTY, kinda like the N97 running Android.

sonyericsson_p905-thumb-450x576In other news, we recorded our first podcast yesterday. It is called Like Mob and it will be available on iTunes shortly. In the podcast, Aryeh, Itamar, and I ramble on about all the newest cellular developments. In this episode, we talk about Nova, the G2, the American 5800 Xpress Music, Samsung’s Android phone, the Nokia E63, and how the iPhone is on sale at Best Buy and is now officially unlocked.

Let me just warn you that our recording setup was not ideal this episode, so the audio quality left room for improvement. Next week, it will be better.

Lenovo and Skype Enter the Cellular Market

Not much going on, so I thought I would just report a few small pieces of news. First of all, a mysterious picture showed up on the Web of an unknown Lenovo cellphone. I am a big fan of their laptops so this picture caught my attention. The phone will supposedly run on Android, which makes it the G2?

lenovo-ophone

I am calling it the G2 because it will be the second Google phone, but from the looks of it, it cannot possibly have very much in common with the G1 or the HTC Dream, so to even put them in the same category is a little funny.

Absolutely nothing else is known about this device, but I say, if Lenovo is entering the cellular market, that means more players, cheaper prices, and better phones for us.

In other news, I do not usually take interest or post about these little cute inventions, but this just struck me as borderline genius, so I figured I would share it.

23441-450x-spycoinsYes, that would be a hollow coin, in which one can store/hide their Micro SD cards or any other really small memory card. I just thought that was really innovative and pretty cool.

Lastly, looks like Skype launched a beta version for Windows Mobile devices. Not sure what took so long, but I guess this is a good development. On the other hand, not sure why anyone would want to use this, with programs like Fring and others that include Skype, MSN Messenger, AIM, Gtalk and more, why would someone use an application that limits you to your Skype friends exclusively?

Citrix on an iPhone?? Amazing

It’s really cool that Citrix is developing software to enable you to run your PC off an iPhone.

It would make my life at Payoneer easier because all the Payoneer programs run on PC. Having the access to all work programs on both platforms would really make the iPhone into a true business tool. Then maybe we would convince Payoneer to get us iPhones, oh yah I forgot you need to live in Botswana or Kenya to get an iPhone not Tel Aviv.

Hillel posted about the HTC Touch HD and it personally doesn’t do anything for me, for 2 reasons:
1. It runs Windows Mobile – big down side
2. Its all about apps! The development of apps is where it is at today and the iPhone is clearly winning by miles.

I’m a PC

You can’t compare the Seinfeld commercials and this one, Microsoft is raising the bar with a direct attack at Apple’s “I’m a Mac” campaign.

What do you think?
